  2.                         Miscellaneous Last Minute Items
  3.  
  4.  WARNINGS:
  5.  
  6.  Because this program provides the user with great  potential  to  expedite
  7.  the organization and management of directories and files, it also  enables
  8.  the user to do great harm to themselves if they do not  think  about  what
  9.  they are doing.  The following warnings pertain:
  10.  
  11.    1.  MOVE Option (option 'M')  -   Please be very careful when using  the 
  12.        move  option not to 'move'  critical system and hidden files  unless 
  13.        you  are  sure  you  know  what you are doing.   DO  NOT  UNDER  ANY 
  14.        CIRCUMSTANCE  attempt  to move the critical operating  system  files 
  15.        ("msdos.sys"  &  "io.sys"   or similar on your system).   Such files 
  16.        (found in the root directory of your boot drive)  need to be located 
  17.        in  specific positions on your disk to enable proper booting of  the 
  18.        computer.   Moving such files could prevent you from being  able  to 
  19.        boot your system.

  21.    2.  DELETE Option (option 'Alt-D') -  Please be aware that currently the 
  22.        default  answer  to  the  "Are your sure you want  to  delete  these 
  23.        files?" question in the delete option is YES.   If you really DO NOT 
  24.        want  to  delete ALL THE CURRENTLY TAGGED  FILES,  then  answer  the 
  25.        question with a "N"  or hit the "ESC"  key.   Hitting any other  key
  26.        (including the  carriage return key)  will delete  the tagged files.

  28.    3.  Hitting the ESCape key or "clicking" the OPTION/"ESC"  button during
  29.        the Copy,  Move or Delete files options will terminate the specified
  30.        option.  One  additional file, may be copied, moved or deleted prior
  31.        to the operation  being  terminated.   If,  however,  the  user  has
  32.        specified ALL FILES to be DELETED, the terminate delete option  WILL
  33.        NOT be successful as a faster method is used to delete files if  ALL
  34.        FILES (in 1 directory) are specified for deletion.

  36.  RECOMMENDATIONS:

  38.    1.  This  program depends heavily on successfully  reading  and  writing 
  39.        global/drive data  to files,  the following procedure should be kept 
  40.        in   mind.  Should the user experience any hangups after   initially 
  41.        successful  use of the program,  it is  recommended  that  the  user 
  42.        delete the "ds_globl.log", "ds_drv_?.log" and, as a last resort, the 
  43.        "ds_prog.def" files.  The program will create the foregoing files if  
  44.        it   does  not  find them and this may clear up any hangups   should  
  45.        one  or  more  of those files get  messed  up  during a  write  file 
  46.        operation.

  48.    2.  Users of previous versions of this program should ensure they remove
  49.        all files from any  previous  version  of the  program  to a  backup
  50.        floppy so that this new version  will not  attempt  to use  outdated
  51.        files.  You CAN copy over the "DS_PROG.DEF"  file  from  a  previous
  52.        version to this version 4.21.  This  should  preserve  your  defined
  53.        macros and directory links;  however,  REVIEW  YOUR DEFAULTS  (USING
  54.        ALT-F10) PRIOR TO USING THEM, AS VERSION  4.21  SHOULD  CONVERT  THE
  55.        FILE FORMAT FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION TO 4.21 WHEN YOU REVIEW THEM. DO
  56.        NOT copy the  "DS_GLOBL.LOG"  file from  a previous  version to this
  57.        version.

  59.    3.  OPERATION UNDER WINDOWS 3.0 - If you are experiencing problems using
  60.        the program under Windows and have DS setup to use  EMM  memory  for
  61.        data storage (see Program Limits "Ctrl-L" option),  try changing the
  62.        DS setup to NOT USE EMM.  You may have to set the  DS Program Limits
  63.        option to not use EMM >>> PRIOR <<<  to starting Windows.

  66.  REQUESTS:

  68.    1.  This program was DEVELOPED on a PC which is NOT connected to a  net-
  69.        work.  Additionally, the author does not have access  to  a  network
  70.        for testing.  Should users experience problems running  the  program
  71.        on a network, don't assume the problems are already known  or cannot
  72.        be corrected.  If made aware of the network problems the  author can
  73.        sometimes still solve the problem without direct access to  the net-
  74.        work.  It would be beneficial if  the  network  administrator  (more
  75.        knowledgeable than the normal user) could discuss the  problem  with
  76.        the  author.    The  author  is  interested  in  improving   network
  77.        performance of the program and would welcome  hearing  from  network
  78.        administrators who would be willing  to  work  with  the  author  on 
  79.        improving network performance.

  82.  LATE CHANGES:

  84.    1.  Upon returning from any of the below  listed commands the DS program 
  85.        does a  "SOFTWARE"  Mouse reset to  ensure  the  mouse  retains  its
  86.        characteristics  within DS.   Should  it  become  necessary  to do a
  87.        HARDWARE  Mouse reset or RE-ENABLE the Mouse Software Driver because
  88.        a spawned program has disabled the mouse,  the user  can select  the
  89.        "CTRL_B"  (reBoot mouse) option.   The mouse HARDWARE  reset is  NOT
  90.        executed routinely after spawning  programs  with the  below  listed
  91.        options because the software  reset  is  faster  and  works  in  the
  92.        majority of cases.

  98.        A popup window displays a message that the "CTRL_B"  reboot has been
  99.        selected but the message disappears immediately upon  termination of
  100.        the reboot.
